Dental health is one of the most important aspects of overall physical health. For this reason, dental care is very important at Venice Pines Veterinary Clinic. During each and every physical examination, we conduct a dental assessment. Our veterinarians may recommend a professional dental cleaning if the need is apparent for your pet.

Our professional dental cleanings are always performed under anesthesia, enabling us to clean deeper and more thoroughly than we would be able to do otherwise. We perform a complete oral examination, clean, scale, and polish all teeth, performing extractions when necessary for diseased teeth. One of the best features we provide is full mouth digital dental x-rays. These x-rays allow us to identify problems that may not be seen with the naked eye, such as decay below the gum line, gum disease, or hairline fractures in teeth.

Post Dental Care

The first two weeks after the dentistry there is not much for you to do at home to maintain the teeth due to the fact that the mouth may need to heal and the barrier sealant that is applied to the surface of the teeth during the procedure. So NO brushing during this time.

Around two weeks after a professional dental cleaning we have you return with your pet for a post-dental check up with a technician. During this appointment we will check to see how the teeth and gums look, remove any stitches (if there were extractions) and discuss with you a plan for continued home care. We will go through all of the dental care products that we have available to see what you think will work the best for you and your pet.

At-Home Dental Care

Humans go to the dentist too, but we also brush and floss daily. If we expect our pets to have a healthy mouth, regular maintenance is required for them as well. We recommend regular oral care for pets. We will be happy to discuss at-home oral care with you at any time. We can provide proper homecare instruction if needed.
